Carpet purchased at different times may come from different dye lots, which can lead to noticeable differences in color—even if the product name and color appear the same. A dye lot refers to a batch of material that has been colored at the same time using the same dye mixture.
All items from the same dye lot will have consistent coloring. When a new batch of dye is mixed, it creates a different dye lot, which may result in slight color variations. For the most consistent look, it’s best to purchase all carpet for a project at the same time.
The same is true for other products as well. Tile can have a dye lot. Even natural wood and stone products manufactured at different times can come from a different source causing slight variations in color.
