Can you install vinyl on top of my old linoleum?

The short answer is... sometimes. When we come out to measure for you we will be able to determine the type of existing vinyl/linoleum you have and whether we can install over it or not.

Here's the longer answer. It depends on the type of vinyl/linoleum floor you have down and how many previous layers exist. True linoleum is made from resins like linseed oil and is directly glued to either your concrete floor or a suitable underlayment installed over your existing subfloor.  If there is one layer of linoleum then vinyl can be installed over the top of the existing linoleum after we emboss the floor with a concrete slurry. This allows proper adhesion between your existing floor and the new vinyl floor.  If your existing floor is not linoleum, but rather sheet vinyl, then there are different rules.  If the sheet vinyl has a felt backing and is directly glued to either a concrete or wood substrate, then as long at there is only one existing layer we can emboss and install directly over your existing vinyl.  If your existing floor is a fiberglass backed sheet vinyl then it will need to be removed before a new vinyl floor can be installed.
