Introduction
At Ultimate Home Services, we prioritize safety and quality workmanship in all our flooring projects. When encountering suspected asbestos tiles, it is crucial to handle removal and installation according to industry guidelines and regulations. This guide outlines the required steps and clarifies our scope of work for such situations.
Understanding Asbestos in Flooring
Asbestos was commonly used in flooring materials prior to regulations banning its use. Asbestos is commonly found in materials manufactured prior to 1986. Tiles and adhesives containing asbestos pose health risks if disturbed improperly. All loose or damaged asbestos tiles must be fully removed before new flooring installation to ensure customer and installer safety.
Next Steps After Measurement and Purchase
After completing your flooring measurement, if asbestos tiles are detected or suspected, and the floor is sound or "adhered securely," then we can usually stretch carpet over top of it or install a floating floor like laminate or vinyl plank.
However, if the tiles are damaged or compromised, they will need to be removed prior to installation. Once asbestos removal is verified complete, our installers will proceed with the floor installation according to your project specifications, ensuring quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.
If potentially asbestos-containing tiles are discovered during installation, all work must stop immediately. We are required to report the findings to Lowe’s. Installation can only resume once the tiles have been professionally removed and testing confirms the absence of asbestos.
Please note: asbestos removal must be performed by licensed professionals. Ultimate Home Services is not authorized to test for, disturb, or remove asbestos materials. This critical step must be handled by certified asbestos abatement contractors to ensure safety and compliance with legal regulations.
